A bit of history of Dolores County, Colorado
When the old-timers said times were hard, they were serious. Many of them left Texas, Oklahoma, or Missouri dirt poor. Looking for a fresh start, most of the pioneers arrived here with little money. By the time they had made a down payment on the land, or filed on a homestead, that little money was gone.
But that didn’t stop them. Building materials were littering the very ground they were trying to farm. With a little knowledge and a lot of work they put up sheds and houses out of logs and rock.
The generation that built these wonderful structures is just about gone, and with them the history.
